6 Ways to Enjoy the Holidays Amid COVID-19
The holidays will look and feel a little different for nearly all of us this year, but there are still plenty of ways to celebrate, perhaps do something that you haven’t done before, and make it one of the best holiday seasons ever.
Below are some ideas on making this one of the most memorable seasons and maybe even introducing some new traditions.
Gift Giving
Make homemade gifts and goodies
Taking the time to make holiday treats and gifts can be a great way to get yourself in the holidays’ spirit. If you have kids, this can be a great thing to do together. Homemade presents can be more one-of-a-kind than store-bought gifts. Making them yourself will also help you save money!
Shop early and take advantage of online ordering and curbside pickup
If you’re able, consider getting your shopping done early this year. Getting a jump start on your holiday shopping will allow you more time to relax and enjoy the other aspects of the holidays. Also, not waiting until the last minute will allow you more time to shop around for the best deals and avoid rushed shipping, which will save you money. Online ordering and curbside pickup can also be time and money-savers and help you avoid the crowds during the pandemic.
Give the Gift of Membership
Are you looking for a unique gift for family members or friends? An AHFCU Gift of Membership can be enjoyed and remembered for years to come! For a limited time, AHFCU will help you give more by providing a bonus of $5 and an AHFCU piggy bank on all new AHFCU membership accounts with an initial deposit of $25.00. Things to Do
Make paperchain garlands
Chances are, if you’ve made paper-chain garlands before, it has been a long time. Whether you have little kids or not, making paper-chain garlands for your house, tree, or even hanging in your car, can be a great way to add some holiday cheer. All you need is colored construction paper cut into strips and then glued or stapled into circles; one joined to the other to create a chain as long as you have the patience to make. Add a little spray glitter (or glitter on a thin layer of glue) to make it extra festive.
Enjoy the holiday lights
Tune into a local radio station playing holiday favorites or bring along your holiday playlist for a ride through neighborhoods displaying holiday lights.
Volunteer or Donate
The Los Angeles Regional Food Bank has opportunities for volunteers to assemble food baskets or sort food for distribution. There are also many ways that you can virtually help your community. You can get ideas for helping and you can search for organizations in need through the State’s California Volunteers’ web page. Many medical centers, shelters, and community centers are accepting donations. It’s important to do your research before making a donation and never donate in cash, by gift card, or by wiring money.
