Nurses Week 2023
At Allied Healthcare Federal Credit Union, we know that nurses are an integral part of the healthcare system, providing vital care and support to patients. From hospitals to clinics, nursing homes to schools, and beyond, nurses work tirelessly to make sure patients receive the best possible care, and their contributions cannot be overstated—but they are too often overlooked. During National Nurses Week, we are out to give the four million American nurses the credit they are due.
In Praise of Nurses
Nurses are essential in providing patient care. As the largest group of healthcare professionals, they are often the first point of contact for patients and are responsible for taking vital signs, administering medications, providing wound care, and performing other routine tasks. They also provide emotional support to patients and their families, which can be just as important as physical care.
Nurses also play a vital role in the prevention and management of chronic illnesses. They work closely with patients to provide education about their conditions, promote healthy lifestyle habits, and help patients manage their symptoms. According to the American Nurses Association, nurses further provide education and training to other healthcare professionals, including new nurses, nursing students, and medical students. According to the ANA, nursing education programs are growing, with more than 3,000 nursing schools in the United States offering programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Nurses Today
The COVID-19 pandemic has only highlighted the critical role that nurses play in our healthcare system. Nurses have been on the front lines, providing care to patients and working to prevent the spread of illness. According to a survey by the American Nurses Association, more than 80% of nurses reported that they had cared for patients with COVID-19, and more than 50% reported that they had not had enough personal protective equipment (PPE) to keep themselves safe. Despite these challenges, nurses have continued to work tirelessly to provide the best possible care to patients.
Nurses Forever
Nurses are the heart of the healthcare industry and it’s too easy to take them for granted. Not at Allied Healthcare Federal Credit Union. All week we are celebrating the nurses that do so much for our community by giving out free coffee and refreshments at our branches on Monday, free financial checkups on Wednesday and encouraging all of our members to nominate a deserving nurse to be entered into a drawing for a $100 spa gift card. They deserve it, especially this week.
Nurses Week is an opportunity to celebrate and honor the incredible work of nurses around the world. They play a critical role in promoting patient safety, preventing and managing chronic illnesses, and advancing the field of healthcare through research and education. Now more than ever, we salute the hardworking nurses who are the heart of the healthcare industry.
